The heart behind Whimsical Atelier

I never imagined that my journey would lead me here, sharing my art with the world. Like many women, I have spent much of my life being what everyone else needed me to be — working, raising a family, navigating life's unexpected turns, and putting one foot in front of the other, even when the path ahead wasn't always clear.

For many years, my working life revolved around IT and education. I spent years working with Queensland schools, solving problems, helping others and being part of a world that was often structured, practical and full of responsibility. Then, in a rather unexpected turn, I took a leap of faith and became the owner of Ocean Brew Eatery in Emu Park. It was a huge change, a challenge, and an opportunity to build something of my own while becoming part of a wonderful local community.

But life doesn't always unfold the way we expect. Over the years, I have experienced some significant personal changes, heartbreak, loss and moments that have made me stop and reconsider what I want the next chapter of my life to look like.

Through all of this, I've learned that starting over doesn't necessarily mean beginning from nothing. Sometimes, it means rediscovering the parts of yourself that have been quietly waiting for their turn.

For me, that part is creativity.

Whimsical Atelier is my opportunity to explore a side of myself that doesn't need to follow rules, solve problems or have everything figured out. It's a place where I can simply create.

My art is a little like life itself — layered, imperfect, colourful and sometimes unpredictable. I love experimenting with acrylic paint, oil pastels and mixed media, allowing a piece to evolve as I work. I'm drawn to expressive faces, interesting characters, unexpected colours and artwork that makes you feel something, even if you can't quite explain why.

Some pieces come together with a clear idea in mind, while others take on a life of their own. I love that about art. There is freedom in allowing yourself to make a mess, change direction, try something different and discover beauty in the unexpected.

I didn't start Whimsical Atelier because I had everything worked out or because I considered myself to have all the answers. I started because I wanted something that was mine — something that allowed me to grow, experiment, express myself and see where my imagination might take me.

At this stage of my life, I am learning that it's never too late to try something new, to follow a different path or to give yourself permission to want something simply because it makes you happy.

Whimsical Atelier is about more than selling paintings. It's about embracing change, finding joy in the little things and creating something meaningful from the experiences that shape us. If one of my pieces finds its way into someone's home and makes them smile, sparks a conversation or simply makes them feel something, then that makes sharing it all worthwhile.

This is my next chapter. It's a little unconventional, a little whimsical and very much a work in progress — just like me.

Thank you for being here, for taking an interest in my work and for being part of this journey. I'm excited to see where it leads.

Because sometimes, the most beautiful thing we can create is a new beginning.

With love and a little whimsy,

Janine
